nightlockeCanon InfoCanon Name: Samiris "Sam" Irithyl
Canon Age: Sam is short of 100; around 85ish? She's not confused, she's an eladrin elf in her own canon.
Canon: She's a character from a Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game; 5th Edition; the campaign was tentatively called the "Spooky Dark Dungeon of Dispair (sic)".
Character Summary: Sam is proud to be a bard and a member of the
College of Metal. How she became the nominal leader of her adventuring band, however, she couldn't tell you. Natural charisma?
As a young elf, Sam grew up in a devout, secluded elven town called Qiqiapuh. Her parents and older brother were very religious, devoted to the elven god Corellon Larethian. While Sam respected Corellon well enough, there was a lesser elven deity of song magic and bards whom she chose to follow, and the resultant personality conflict saw her cast out of what was once her home. It wasn't that Sam didn't venerate Corellon, it was just that she found him terribly stuffy. The lesser elven goddess Melira Taralen's views and less rigid strictures appealed to Sam as a natural free spirit. (And considering these are all elves, that's really saying something...)
Undaunted, Sam did her best to travel and people-watch, doing odd jobs and playing music to continue her journeys. Her exuberance caught the eye of a member of the mysterious and boisterous College of Metal, and the gnome bard Kemmy Lilmister took her under his wing until Sam could reliably perform on her own.
During her travels, Sam met a monk who called himself Master Oba. A group of bandits fell upon them, and bard and monk dispatched them handily. Discovering a mutual love of fighting, drinking, and music (not necessarily in that order), Sam and Oba decided two was a better number than one, and their legend began. This culminated in a summons from the human king--an evil being who had been imprisoned centuries ago was working to free himself from his prison with the help of cultists, and Sam and Oba were two of the adventurers who were called to prevent that dire strait from coming to pass. Oba was determined to see it through, and Sam wasn't about to desert him--the older man was the closest thing she had to family since she'd left Qiqiapuh. Most elves don't care for undead, and Sam was no different, so the fact that she could kick undead ass
and grow her legend? That seemed like a win/win situation to her!
That and she wasn't about to let some crusty old lich get away with trying to stifle anyone else's freedom, damn it.
Joining them on that all-important mission were a goliath samurai named Chadsmodius, and a plasmoid monk named Suu. With the aid of a few other helpful souls along the way, the quartet descended into the otherworldly labyrinth that served as both prison and lair of the lich--for lich it was. They travelled through the layers of the labyrinth, dispatching monsters and solving puzzles until the king himself joined them in an attempt to finally seal the lich once again.
Unfortunately, Oba, the drunken master, playing the fool, attempted to trick the lich, and in doing so caused an explosion in the lich's lair. Most of the heroes were ejected out of the labyrinth, but Sam was cast with the lich into a dimension of evil and darkness...
She'll be damned if she lets that stop her, however!
AU InfoAU Name: Samantha "Sam" Irithyl.
Age: 19. No actual aging up or down, just translating from elven age to human age.
AU History: Sam's always had nightmares with no discernible reason behind them. Not constant, not debilitating, but memorable. Some were just "whoa, yeah, that was a nightmare" when she could put words to the experience, but some were panicky, wake-up-screaming ones. Sam does wonder if this was a precursor to Awakening...
Another thing that helped was likely a healthy imagination, not to mention participating in her high school role playing club--when she Awakened at fifteen, she just imagined she was one of her favorite characters (a barbarian, at the time) and raged out on the hapless Nightmare besieging her.
Thusly, she became an exchange student, moving from her home in the American Midwest to attend Promised Morning Academy and be mentored by a grizzled fellow named Kemmy Lilmister, also known as Dreamer Motorhead.
Having graduated, Sam is dabbling in music theory at university. So far, she's shown some talent for interacting with the curious folks who want to learn more about the Dreamer Union and acts as a tour guide when she isn't moonlighting in a cover band.
Sam's fresh out of being mentored at the DU; she still has a cordial relationship with Kemmy--she would likely not bother him with a cry for help, and surely all Dreamers help each other, but if he called for help, Sam would literally drop everything to help him in any way she could. She's no longer a Novice, but she doesn't have the confidence of a Dreamer with long-term experience.
AU Personality: Sam is still a free spirit, but she hasn't had a terrible falling-out with her parents. Though the pair of stuffy accountants who are her parents do wonder how they produced her, when her brother is completely normal and studying to be a lawyer!
Sam cares a lot--even if she hadn't been a Dreamer, she probably would have ended up going into some sort of a career that helps people. They don't have adventurers here, so she's a Dreamer, but EMT, firefighter, nurse? All professions Sam might have found herself in.
This lends itself to having time for kids younger than herself, when she isn't pursuing her other major passion of music--she enjoys playing games, both board and roleplaying, and reads comic books and manga avidly--at 19, it could be said Sam is still just a big kid herself. She's not one to shirk her actual responsibilities, however.
Sadly, there is no corollary to Master Oba for Sam here. There's a decided lack, and she feels it, but she can't put her finger on why. She loves her family, and even though she's the proverbial black sheep, they're still very proud of what Sam has become, so it's not that. Her peers might be a little standoffish, but Sam can understand that, because she does realize there's always a bit of a target painted on the mundane allies of a Dreamer--it's why she came to Japan in the first place, after all.
Other AU Changes: In Dreamer form, Sam's hair and eye color change between the Eladrin seasonal forms, since her form reflects her elven form then. It's solely cosmetic.
Dreamer Info
Dreamer Title: Dreamer DropD-Tune (it's a heavy metal in-joke...)
Appearance: Her short dress is wispy grey with a rainbow sheen. She's got crystal pauldrons and long boots adorned with crystals as well, and they also have a rainbow sheen like good quartz. Her weapon is a glassine battleaxe that doubles as a guitar, with clear crystalline sand inside that gives off little rainbows.
Archetype: Saver
Power Considerations:
Sonic: things like sound waves thrown by either her voice or her "axe"; her chosen weapon is a battle axe that doubles as a musical instrument. Upgrades could mean more destructive power...or the inverse, sonic harmonics that can act like charm spells or some such. Flip a coin, since I don't expect both to be options straight out of the gate, nor am I heart set on either at the same time to start.
Healing Chord: kind of what it says on the tin, she plays music that regenerates wounds. Base is very slow, power upticks mean it's faster. No, she can't bring anyone back from the dead. You wouldn't like it...
Electricity: Basically charging her "axe" with lightning to boost her attack. In the future Sam might be able to channel it into bolts or arcs, but not yet.
Misty Step: Like the D&D spell, with certain caveats like she can only use it once or maybe twice a scene, she can't use it immediately one after the other. If something breaks her line of sight during the teleport, she gets dumped on her butt (oh, her dignity!). Upgrades will slowly remove these embarrassing hindrances, but not swiftly.RP Sample: here!Other Notes: /shrug?
